IsoTechnology developed the IsoTOUCH under JIEDDO, the US Army’s Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization. Studies were funded in 2010 to engineer the “replication of human touch” under the initiation of Lt. General Thomas F. Metz. The objective was to enhance counter IED robots with a form of “touch”.

Sensors were produced to investigate if touch-pressure feedback could first be used during human manual medicine diagnosis, and then transfer it to a robotic system. The creation of finely tuned sensory feedback systems can be linked to motor drive circuits to create more efficient robotic units, and this technology was then transferred to Oak Ridge National Labs.

The IsoTOUCH system is used for training in palpation diagnosis in several medical schools, who use it on patients with neurosensory damage in their hands.
